Ptolemy IV
Ptolemy IV, also known as Ptolemy IV Philopator, was a ruler of the Ptolemaic Kingdom in ancient Egypt from 221 to 204 BCE. He was the son of Ptolemy III and Berenice II. His reign is noted for the significant military victory at the Battle of Raphia against the Seleucid Empire in 217 BCE, which expanded his territory.
Despite his military successes, Ptolemy IV's rule was marked by internal strife and corruption. He was known for his lavish lifestyle and neglect of state affairs, leading to a decline in the power of the Ptolemaic dynasty. His reign ended with his death, after which his son, Ptolemy V, ascended to the throne.
