Stress Appraisal
Stress appraisal is the process by which individuals evaluate and interpret a stressful situation. It involves assessing the potential threat or challenge posed by the situation and determining one's ability to cope with it. This evaluation can influence emotional responses and behaviors in the face of stress.
There are two main types of appraisal: primary appraisal and secondary appraisal. In primary appraisal, a person identifies whether the situation is a threat, a challenge, or irrelevant. In secondary appraisal, they evaluate their resources and options for coping with the stressor. Together, these appraisals shape how one responds to stress.
