Neo-Aramaic
Neo-Aramaic refers to a group of modern languages that evolved from the ancient Aramaic language, which was widely spoken in the Near East. These languages are primarily used by the Assyrian and Chaldean communities, particularly in regions of Iraq, Syria, and Iran. Neo-Aramaic languages include several dialects, such as Sureth and Turoyo, each with unique characteristics.
Despite their ancient roots, Neo-Aramaic languages face challenges due to declining speakers and cultural assimilation. Efforts are being made to preserve these languages through education and community initiatives, as they hold significant historical and cultural importance for the Assyrian people and their heritage.
