The Malayan flying lemur, also known as colugo, is a unique mammal found in the forests of Southeast Asia, particularly in Malaysia and Indonesia. Despite its name, it is not a true lemur but belongs to its own order called Dermoptera. This nocturnal creature is known for its remarkable gliding ability, which it uses to move between trees in search of food.
With a wingspan of up to 70 centimeters, the Malayan flying lemur has a large membrane of skin that stretches from its neck to its fingertips and toes, allowing it to glide up to 150 meters. Its diet mainly consists of leaves, fruits, and flowers, making it an important part of the forest ecosystem.
