Kurdish autonomy
Kurdish autonomy refers to the self-governing rights and political independence sought by the Kurdish people, an ethnic group primarily located in parts of Turkey, Iraq, Iran, and Syria. This autonomy allows for local governance, cultural expression, and control over certain resources, enabling the Kurdish regions to manage their affairs while remaining part of the larger nation-states.
In Iraq, the Kurdistan Region has achieved a significant degree of autonomy, with its own government and military forces, known as the Peshmerga. In contrast, the quest for autonomy in Turkey and Iran has faced more resistance, leading to ongoing tensions and conflicts between the Kurdish population and the respective governments.
