Isabel, Princess Imperial of Brazil, was born on July 29, 1846, as the daughter of Emperor Pedro II and Empress Teresa Cristina. She became the heir to the Brazilian throne and was known for her progressive views, particularly on social issues.
Isabel is most famous for signing the Golden Law in 1888, which abolished slavery in Brazil, making her a significant figure in the country's history. Her actions earned her the nickname "Isabel, the Redeemer." After the monarchy was overthrown in 1889, she went into exile in Europe, where she lived until her death in 1921.
