Yasrib
Yasrib, known today as Medina, is a city in western Saudi Arabia. It holds significant historical importance as it was the destination of the Hijra, the migration of the Prophet Muhammad and his followers from Mecca in 622 CE. This event marked the beginning of the Islamic calendar and established Yasrib as a key center for the early Muslim community.
Before the arrival of Muhammad, Yasrib was inhabited by various tribes, including the Aws and Khazraj. The city became a refuge for Muslims facing persecution in Mecca and later served as the capital of the first Islamic state. Today, it is a major religious site, attracting millions of pilgrims each year.
