Veerashaiva
Veerashaiva is a religious and philosophical movement that originated in the southern part of India, particularly in the state of Karnataka. It emphasizes devotion to Shiva as the supreme god and promotes the idea of personal experience of the divine. Followers, known as Lingayats, wear a sacred emblem called the linga to symbolize their faith and commitment.
The movement was founded by the saint Basava in the 12th century, who advocated for social reform and equality. Veerashaivism rejects caste distinctions and promotes a direct relationship with God, encouraging followers to engage in community service and uphold moral values.
