Lingayats
The Lingayats are a religious community primarily found in the Indian state of Karnataka. They follow the teachings of the 12th-century philosopher and saint Basava, who emphasized devotion to the god Shiva and rejected caste distinctions. Lingayats are known for their distinct practices, including wearing a small locket called a Linga, which symbolizes their faith.
Lingayats are often associated with the Veerashaiva tradition, which promotes a monotheistic belief in Shiva. They have a rich cultural heritage, including unique festivals, rituals, and a strong emphasis on social justice and community service. The community plays a significant role in the socio-political landscape of Karnataka.
