Veerashaivism
Veerashaivism is a sect of Hinduism that worships Shiva as the supreme god. It originated in the 12th century in the region of Karnataka, India, and emphasizes personal devotion and direct experience of the divine. Followers, known as Lingayats, wear a sacred emblem called the linga, symbolizing their faith and connection to Shiva.
The movement was significantly influenced by the teachings of saints like Basava and Akka Mahadevi, who advocated for social reform and equality. Veerashaivism promotes values such as non-violence, community service, and the rejection of caste distinctions, making it a progressive spiritual path.
