Turkish Wrestling
Turkish Wrestling, known as Yağlı Güreş, is a traditional form of wrestling that has been practiced in Turkey for centuries. Wrestlers, called pehlivans, compete while covered in olive oil, which adds a unique challenge to the sport. The matches take place in a grassy area called a tullum, and the goal is to pin the opponent to the ground.
The sport is deeply rooted in Turkish culture and often features at festivals and events, including the famous Kirkpinar Oil Wrestling Festival. Wrestlers wear special leather pants called kispet, and the competition emphasizes strength, technique, and strategy.
