Kırkpınar
Kırkpınar is an annual oil wrestling festival held in Edirne, Turkey, and is one of the oldest sports events in the world, dating back to the 14th century. The festival features wrestlers, known as pehlivans, who compete while covered in olive oil, making the matches both challenging and visually striking.
The event typically takes place in June and lasts for several days, attracting thousands of spectators. Wrestlers compete in various weight categories, and the ultimate champion is awarded the title of Başpehlivan, along with a traditional golden belt. Kırkpınar is recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage.
