Yağlı Güreş
Yağlı Güreş, or oil wrestling, is a traditional Turkish sport that dates back centuries. In this unique form of wrestling, competitors douse themselves in olive oil before engaging in a match. The goal is to pin the opponent to the ground, showcasing strength, technique, and strategy.
The sport is often held during festivals, with the most famous event being the Kırkpınar Oil Wrestling Festival in Edirne. Wrestlers, known as pehlivan, wear special leather trousers called kispet. Yağlı Güreş is not only a test of physical prowess but also a celebration of Turkish culture and heritage.
