Temple I
Temple I, also known as the Temple of the Great Jaguar, is a prominent structure located in the ancient Mayan city of Tikal in Guatemala. Built around 732 AD, it stands approximately 47 meters (154 feet) tall and is one of the tallest pre-Columbian structures in the Americas. The temple features a steep staircase leading to a roof comb, which is adorned with intricate carvings and sculptures.
The temple served as a royal tomb for the Mayan ruler Ah Cacao, also known as Lord Chocolate. It is part of a larger complex that includes other temples and plazas, showcasing the architectural and cultural achievements of the Maya civilization.
