Syrian Kurdish
Syrian Kurdish refers to the Kurdish people living in Syria, primarily in the northern regions known as Rojava. They are part of the larger Kurdish ethnic group, which also inhabits parts of Turkey, Iraq, and Iran. The Kurdish language spoken in this area is primarily Kurmanji, a dialect of the Kurdish language family.
The Syrian Kurdish community has gained international attention due to their role in the fight against ISIS and their establishment of a semi-autonomous region. This has led to significant political developments, including the formation of local governance structures and efforts to promote cultural and linguistic rights within Syria.
