Supreme Court of Scotland
The Supreme Court of Scotland is the highest court in the Scottish legal system. Established in 2009, it replaced the House of Lords as the final court of appeal for civil cases in Scotland. It also hears certain criminal cases, particularly those involving significant legal questions.
The court is located in Edinburgh and consists of a panel of judges known as justices. Its primary role is to interpret and apply the law, ensuring justice is served in accordance with Scottish law. The decisions made by the Supreme Court are binding on all lower courts in Scotland.
