Sorbic Languages
The Sorbic languages are a group of West Slavic languages spoken by the Sorb people in eastern Germany, primarily in the regions of Lower Lusatia and Upper Lusatia. There are two main varieties: Upper Sorbian and Lower Sorbian, each with its own distinct dialects and cultural significance. These languages are recognized as minority languages in Germany and are used in local education and media.
Sorbic languages have a rich literary tradition and are influenced by both German and Polish due to historical interactions. Efforts to preserve and promote these languages include educational programs and cultural events, helping to maintain the unique identity of the Sorb community.
