Princess Isabel of Brazil
Princess Isabel of Brazil was born on July 29, 1846, and was the daughter of Emperor Pedro II of Brazil. She is best known for her role in the abolition of slavery in Brazil, as she signed the Golden Law on May 13, 1888, which officially ended slavery in the country. This act made her a significant figure in Brazilian history and earned her the title "The Redeemer."
Isabel served as regent of Brazil during her father's absences and was involved in various social and political issues of her time. Despite her contributions, she faced opposition and criticism, particularly from the Brazilian monarchy and landowners. After the monarchy was overthrown in 1889, she went into exile in Europe.
