Princess Isabel
Princess Isabel was a Brazilian royal born on July 29, 1846. She was the daughter of Emperor Pedro II and Empress Teresa Cristina. Isabel is best known for her role in the abolition of slavery in Brazil, as she signed the Golden Law on May 13, 1888, which officially ended slavery in the country.
Isabel served as regent of Brazil during her father's absences and was a progressive figure in Brazilian history. Despite her significant contributions, she faced challenges and opposition, particularly from those who supported the monarchy. After the Brazilian Republic was established in 1889, Isabel went into exile in Europe.
