The Nepalese Royal Massacre occurred on June 1, 2001, at the Narayanhiti Royal Palace in Kathmandu, Nepal. During a family gathering, Crown Prince Dipendra opened fire on his family members, resulting in the deaths of ten people, including King Birendra and Queen Aishwarya. Dipendra fell into a coma and was declared king while unconscious, but he died three days later.
The tragedy led to significant changes in the Nepalese monarchy. After Dipendra's death, his younger brother, Gyanendra, ascended the throne. The incident shocked the nation and raised questions about the royal family's stability and the future of the monarchy in Nepal.
