Nepalese Royal Family
The Nepalese Royal Family was the ruling dynasty of Nepal until the abolition of the monarchy in 2008. The family belonged to the Shah dynasty, which was established in the 18th century by King Prithvi Narayan Shah. The royal family played a significant role in unifying Nepal and was known for its influence in the country's politics and culture.
In June 2001, a tragic incident occurred when Crown Prince Dipendra allegedly killed several family members, including King Birendra, before turning the gun on himself. This event led to the ascension of King Gyanendra, who ruled until the monarchy was dissolved following a decade-long civil conflict and the establishment of a federal democratic republic.
