Neo-Aramaic Languages
Neo-Aramaic languages are a group of modern languages that evolved from the ancient Aramaic language, which was widely spoken in the Near East. These languages are primarily used by the Assyrian and Chaldean communities, particularly in regions of Iraq, Syria, and Iran. Neo-Aramaic has several dialects, including Sureth and Turoyo, each with unique characteristics and variations.
Despite their rich history, Neo-Aramaic languages face challenges due to declining speaker populations and the effects of migration and conflict. Efforts are being made to preserve these languages through education and cultural initiatives, as they are an important part of the heritage of the Aramaic-speaking peoples.
