Nalanda Mahavihara
Nalanda Mahavihara was an ancient center of higher learning located in present-day Bihar, India. Established in the 5th century CE, it became one of the first residential universities in the world, attracting students and scholars from various regions, including China, Tibet, and Korea. The university was renowned for its comprehensive curriculum, which included subjects like philosophy, mathematics, and medicine.
The complex housed numerous monasteries, temples, and libraries, with the most famous being the Great Stupa. Nalanda flourished until the 12th century when it was destroyed by invading forces. Today, it is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, symbolizing the rich history of education in ancient India.
