Muhammad ibn Jarir al-Tabari
Muhammad ibn Jarir al-Tabari was a prominent Persian scholar born in 838 CE in Amol, Iran. He is best known for his works in history and exegesis, particularly his famous book, Tarikh al-Rusul wa al-Muluk (History of the Prophets and Kings), which provides a comprehensive account of Islamic history from creation to his time. Al-Tabari's writings are considered foundational in the fields of Islamic historiography and Quranic interpretation.
In addition to his historical works, al-Tabari made significant contributions to Islamic jurisprudence and theology. His commentary on the Quran, known as Tafsir al-Tabari, is one of the earliest and most respected interpretations of the holy text. Al-Tabari's influence extends beyond his lifetime, as his works continue to be studied and referenced by scholars and students of Islamic studies today.
