Mosque of Al-Nuri
The Mosque of Al-Nuri is a historic mosque located in Mosul, Iraq. It was built in the 12th century and is famous for its distinctive leaning minaret, known as the Al-Hadba, which means "the hunchback." The mosque served as a significant religious and cultural center for the local community.
In June 2017, the mosque was destroyed by ISIS during the battle for Mosul. Its loss was a significant blow to the cultural heritage of the region. Efforts are ongoing to restore the mosque and its minaret, symbolizing hope for the revival of Mosul and its rich history.
