Mosul
Mosul is a city in northern Iraq, located on the west bank of the Tigris River. It is the capital of the Nineveh Governorate and has a rich history that dates back thousands of years. Mosul was once a major center for trade and culture, known for its diverse population and historical landmarks, including the famous Great Mosque of al-Nuri.
In recent years, Mosul gained international attention due to the conflict involving ISIS, which captured the city in 2014. After a prolonged battle, Iraqi forces liberated Mosul in 2017, but the city suffered significant destruction. Today, efforts are underway to rebuild and restore its cultural heritage.
