Modern Palestinian History
Modern Palestinian history is marked by the struggle for national identity and self-determination. Following the end of the Ottoman Empire after World War I, the region came under British control through the British Mandate. Tensions between Jewish and Arab communities escalated, leading to the 1947 United Nations partition plan, which proposed separate states for both groups.
The 1948 Arab-Israeli War resulted in the establishment of the state of Israel and the displacement of many Palestinians, an event known as the Nakba. Over the decades, Palestinians have sought recognition and statehood, with significant events including the First and Second Intifadas and ongoing peace negotiations.
