Minerva Mirabal
Minerva Mirabal was a Dominican political activist born on March 12, 1926. She is best known for her role in opposing the dictatorship of Rafael Trujillo, which ruled the Dominican Republic from 1930 to 1961. Minerva, along with her sisters, formed a group called the Mirabal Sisters, who worked to promote democracy and human rights in their country.
Tragically, Minerva and her sisters were assassinated on November 25, 1960, due to their activism. Their deaths became a symbol of the struggle against oppression, leading to the establishment of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, observed on the anniversary of their murder.
