Patria Mirabal
Patria Mirabal was a Dominican political activist born on February 27, 1924. She was one of the four Mirabal sisters, known for their opposition to the dictatorship of Rafael Trujillo in the Dominican Republic. Patria, along with her sisters, became involved in the underground movement against Trujillo's regime, advocating for democracy and human rights.
On November 25, 1960, Patria, along with her sisters Minerva and Maria Teresa, was assassinated by Trujillo's secret police. Their deaths sparked outrage and became a symbol of resistance against oppression. In 1999, the United Nations designated November 25 as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women in their honor.
