Maya Creation Myth
The Maya Creation Myth describes the origins of the world and humanity according to the ancient Maya civilization. It begins with a vast, empty sea and the sky, where the gods, including Tepeu and Gucumatz, convene to create the earth. They speak the world into existence, forming land, plants, and animals.
After creating the earth, the gods attempt to make humans. Their first attempts with mud and wood fail, as these beings lack life and spirit. Finally, they succeed by crafting humans from maize, giving them intelligence and the ability to worship the gods, fulfilling the divine purpose of creation.
