Marc Bloch
Marc Bloch was a French historian born on July 6, 1886, and is best known for his contributions to the field of medieval history. He co-founded the Annales School, which emphasized the importance of social and economic factors in historical analysis, moving away from traditional political narratives. Bloch's work focused on understanding the past through a multidisciplinary approach, incorporating insights from sociology and anthropology.
In addition to his academic achievements, Bloch was also a soldier during World War I and later joined the French Resistance during World War II. His experiences in these conflicts influenced his historical perspective. Tragically, he was captured by the Gestapo and executed in 1944, but his legacy continues to shape modern historiography.
