Manifesto Antropofágico
The "Manifesto Antropofágico," written by Brazilian modernist poet Oswald de Andrade in 1928, is a foundational text of the Brazilian cultural movement known as Antropofagism. This manifesto advocates for the idea of cultural cannibalism, where Brazil absorbs and transforms foreign influences, creating a unique national identity.
Andrade argues that instead of merely imitating European culture, Brazil should "devour" it, integrating and reinterpreting these influences to forge a distinct artistic and cultural expression. This approach emphasizes creativity and originality, positioning Brazil as a vibrant participant in the global cultural landscape.
