Oswald De Andrade
Oswald De Andrade was a Brazilian poet and playwright, born on January 11, 1890, in São Paulo. He is best known for his role in the Modernist movement in Brazil, which sought to break away from traditional forms of art and literature. His work often combined elements of Brazilian culture with avant-garde techniques, making him a key figure in the country's literary history.
De Andrade's most famous work is the manifesto titled Manifesto Antropofágico, published in 1928. In this text, he proposed the idea of "cannibalism" as a metaphor for cultural appropriation, suggesting that Brazil should absorb and transform foreign influences to create a unique national identity. His innovative ideas continue to influence Brazilian literature and art today.
