Oswald de Andrade
Oswald de Andrade was a Brazilian writer and poet, born on January 11, 1890, in São Paulo. He is best known for his role in the modernist movement in Brazil, particularly through his influential manifesto, the Manifesto Antropofágico, which advocated for cultural cannibalism—absorbing and transforming foreign influences into a unique Brazilian identity.
Andrade's work often challenged traditional literary forms and celebrated Brazilian culture, folklore, and language. He was a key figure in the Semana de Arte Moderna (Modern Art Week) of 1922, which marked a turning point in Brazilian art and literature, promoting innovation and breaking away from European traditions.
