Longmen Grottoes
The Longmen Grottoes are a series of caves and rock-cut sculptures located near Luoyang, in China. They were created during the Northern Wei dynasty, around the 5th century, and continued to be developed through the Tang dynasty. The site features thousands of statues, inscriptions, and carvings, showcasing the artistic and religious practices of the time.
The grottoes are home to over 2,300 niches and more than 100,000 statues, with the largest being the Buddha statue standing at 17 meters tall. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Longmen Grottoes are significant for their historical, cultural, and artistic value.
