Kenwa Mabuni
Kenwa Mabuni was a prominent Okinawan martial artist, best known for founding the Shito-ryu style of karate. Born in 1889 in Okinawa, Japan, he began training in martial arts at a young age and studied under various masters, including Itosu Yasutsune and Kyan Chotoku. Mabuni's dedication to karate led him to develop a unique system that combined elements from different styles.
In addition to his contributions to karate, Mabuni was instrumental in promoting the martial art outside of Okinawa. He established dojos and taught students in mainland Japan, helping to popularize karate worldwide. His legacy continues through the many practitioners and schools that follow the Shito-ryu style today.
