K₂, also known as K2, is the second-highest mountain in the world, standing at 8,611 meters (28,251 feet) above sea level. It is part of the Karakoram range, located on the border between Pakistan and China. K₂ is renowned for its challenging climbing conditions, including steep ascents and unpredictable weather, making it one of the most difficult peaks to summit.
The mountain was first successfully climbed on July 31, 1954, by an Italian expedition led by Lino Lacedelli and Achille Compagnoni. K₂ is often referred to as the "Savage Mountain" due to its high fatality rate among climbers. Its remote location and harsh environment contribute to the risks associated with climbing it.
