Achille Compagnoni
Achille Compagnoni was an Italian mountaineer born on September 16, 1921, in Alagna Valsesia, Italy. He is best known for his successful ascent of K2, the second-highest mountain in the world, which he reached on July 31, 1954. Compagnoni was part of the first team to summit K2, along with fellow climber Lino Lacedelli.
Throughout his climbing career, Compagnoni participated in various expeditions in the Himalayas and other mountain ranges. He was recognized for his skills in high-altitude climbing and contributed to the development of mountaineering techniques. Compagnoni passed away on May 13, 2020.
