Indian Independence Act
The Indian Independence Act was enacted by the British Parliament on July 5, 1947, marking the end of British rule in India. It provided for the partition of British India into two independent dominions: India and Pakistan. The Act outlined the process for transferring power and established a timeline for the withdrawal of British authority.
The Act also included provisions for the division of assets and responsibilities between the two new nations. It granted the right to self-governance and allowed for the establishment of separate legislative assemblies. This significant legislation paved the way for the birth of two sovereign states.
