Great Mosque of Al-Nuri
The Great Mosque of Al-Nuri is a historic mosque located in Mosul, Iraq. Built in the 12th century, it is renowned for its iconic leaning minaret, known as the al-Hadba, which stands at approximately 45 meters tall. The mosque served as a significant center for Islamic worship and education throughout its history.
In June 2017, the mosque was destroyed during the battle against ISIS, marking a tragic loss of cultural heritage. Efforts are underway to restore the mosque and its minaret, reflecting the importance of preserving historical sites for future generations.
