Government of India Act 1919
The Government of India Act 1919 was a significant piece of legislation passed by the British Parliament to reform the governance of India. It introduced a system of dyarchy in the provinces, allowing for a division of responsibilities between elected Indian ministers and British officials. This act aimed to increase Indian participation in governance while maintaining British control.
Additionally, the act expanded the electorate and introduced separate electorates for certain communities, including Muslims and Sikhs. It also established a legislative council at the central level, which included Indian representatives, marking a step towards self-governance in India.
