French July Monarchy
The French July Monarchy was a period of constitutional monarchy in France from 1830 to 1848. It began after the July Revolution, which overthrew King Charles X. The new king, Louis-Philippe, known as the "Citizen King," aimed to represent the interests of the bourgeoisie and promote economic growth.
During this time, France experienced significant industrialization and urbanization. However, the monarchy faced criticism for its limited suffrage and failure to address social issues. Discontent grew, leading to the February Revolution of 1848, which ultimately ended the July Monarchy and established the Second French Republic.
