Fifth French Republic
The Fifth French Republic is the current republican government of France, established on October 4, 1958. It was created to provide a stable political framework following a period of political instability and the collapse of the Fourth Republic. The new constitution strengthened the powers of the presidency, allowing for a more centralized and effective government.
Under the leadership of its first president, Charles de Gaulle, the Fifth Republic aimed to restore France's international standing and address domestic challenges. The system has since evolved, with significant reforms and changes, but it remains a key part of France's political identity today.
