Fourth French Republic
The Fourth French Republic was established in 1946 after World War II and lasted until 1958. It aimed to rebuild France and restore democracy following the turmoil of the war and the German occupation. The government was characterized by a parliamentary system, with a weak executive and frequent changes in leadership.
Despite its intentions, the Fourth Republic faced significant challenges, including political instability and economic difficulties. It struggled to address issues like the decolonization of Algeria and other territories. Ultimately, the Republic ended when Charles de Gaulle returned to power, leading to the establishment of the Fifth French Republic.
