Ethelfleda
Ethelfleda was a prominent Anglo-Saxon queen and the daughter of Alfred the Great. She ruled the kingdom of Mercia from 911 until her death in 918. Ethelfleda is known for her strong leadership and military skills, particularly in defending her kingdom against Viking invasions. She played a crucial role in the unification of the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms.
Ethelfleda was also instrumental in the construction of fortified towns, known as burhs, which helped protect her people. Her reign marked a significant period in the history of England, as she worked to strengthen her kingdom and support her brother, Edward the Elder, in his efforts to consolidate power.
