Edward the Elder was an important king of the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Wessex in England. He ruled from 899 to 924 AD and was the son of Alfred the Great, who is famous for defending England against Viking invasions. Edward continued his father's work by strengthening the kingdom and expanding its territory, making it more powerful and united.
During his reign, Edward focused on building a strong military and improving the defenses of his kingdom. He also encouraged the spread of Christianity and supported the establishment of monasteries. His leadership helped lay the foundation for the future unification of England under his descendants.
