Alfred The Great
Alfred the Great was a king of Wessex in England who reigned from 871 to 899 AD. He is best known for his efforts to defend his kingdom against Viking invasions and for his role in unifying the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms. Alfred implemented military reforms and established a network of fortified towns, known as "burhs," to protect his people.
In addition to his military achievements, Alfred was a patron of education and learning. He encouraged the translation of important texts into Old English and promoted literacy among his subjects. His contributions to law and governance helped lay the foundation for the future development of the English monarchy.
