Aethelflaed
Aethelflaed was a prominent Anglo-Saxon leader born around 870 AD, known as the Lady of the Mercians. She was the daughter of Alfred the Great, the King of Wessex, and played a crucial role in defending her kingdom against Viking invasions. Aethelflaed became the ruler of Mercia after her husband's death and was instrumental in strengthening its defenses.
Under her leadership, Aethelflaed fortified several towns, including Tamworth and Stafford, and led military campaigns against the Vikings. Her efforts significantly contributed to the unification of the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms and laid the groundwork for the eventual rise of a united England.
