Electress Sophia
Electress Sophia was a prominent figure in the early 18th century, born on September 14, 1630, in Hanover, Germany. She was the daughter of Elizabeth Stuart, the Queen of Bohemia, and Frederick V, the Elector Palatine. Sophia became the Electress of Hanover through her marriage to Ernest Augustus, the Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg.
In 1701, Sophia was designated as the heir to the English throne under the Act of Settlement, due to her Protestant faith. This decision was significant in ensuring a Protestant succession after the death of Queen Anne. Sophia's lineage ultimately led to the establishment of the House of Hanover in Britain.
