Edgar the Ætheling
Edgar the Ætheling was a nobleman in 11th-century England, born around 1051. He was the grandson of King Edmund II and a claimant to the English throne after the death of King Edward the Confessor in 1066. Edgar was recognized for his royal lineage, being the last male descendant of the Anglo-Saxon kings.
After the Norman Conquest led by William the Conqueror, Edgar briefly became a figurehead for resistance against Norman rule. He was proclaimed king by some supporters but never ruled effectively. Eventually, he submitted to William and lived in relative obscurity until his death around 1125.
